Posted: 30 Jul 2012 07:42 PM PDT Last week, I pushed myself and increased my personal goals. It’s always rewarding to reach for more, but I was just plain stupid. I ran 28.5 miles last week, which to a lot of runners is NOT terribly impressive, but personally I was thrilled to log so many miles. Thrilled until I woke up today and I was much more sore than normal. Everything ached including my shins, my legs and even my pinky toe. But I stubbed my toe walking into a wall so that doesn’t count! As I looked back at my past weeks, I realized that my running totals were 14.27, 11.20 and 10.80. The plain and simple rule is not to increase your mileage more than 10% from week to week. While I was thrilled with my progress, I know how amateur it is to more than double my mileage from one week to the next. I am still recovering from an annoying two month ankle injury and a sore hip, and I don’t need/want any other set backs. Tonight I stuck to a few weights and a very relaxing yoga class. I have a BIG weekend planned so I need to take it easy. I have to keep up with my running group and possibly compete in my longest race in years! More details on that race to come… Today: 0 miles. Are you watching the Olympics? What has been your favorite event so far? |
