Speed Training & In Need of Advice Posted: 29 Aug 2012 06:20 AM PDT Knowing that I need to keep my mileage down this week, I figured that tonight would be the perfect opportunity to work on speed training. Now, once again, it was late so the treadmill had to substitute for the open road. Since I always run faster on a treadmill, I set a goal of running 3.10 miles, a 5K, in under 24:30 minutes. About two miles and 16:05 minutes into the run, my lungs hurt. I knew I could finish, but I also knew it wouldn’t be easy. To stay interested in my run, I just kept bumping up my speed to see how fast I could go, and to see how far I could push myself. For the last .60 mile I was running as fast as my tired legs would let me. I finished in 24:12 minutes, which means I ran sub 8 minute miles. Yipee! I know I could never replicate that same time outside, but it’s still a PR, and I’m very proud! I think my next goal is to duplicate that same time outside. Let’s see how long that takes to accomplish! A Side Note As a 28-year-old woman, I have decided that it is time to stop looking 14. Maybe its all of my running, genetics or bad skin luck, but I am tired of my face breaking out all of the time. So, I am officially quitting my 10-year relationship with Proactiv. I think it’s time, and maybe our relationship has just run its course. Now I’m in search of a new facial cleanser that won’t leave MULTIPLE zits on my face every single day! Any and all suggestions are welcome! PLEASE HELP! Today: 3.25 miles. |
