So in the past 3 weeks i've been putting myself and some "guinea
pigs" through experimental workouts, including the 10-minute
calorie challenge.

a) 183 calories on the treadmill
b) But only 151 calories on a stationary bike
 
...even though the bike workout felt 35% harder.
 
I'll probably be able to hit 200 calories in 10 minutes with the
treadmill after a few more tries.

just so i can bellow an evil laugh & freak out the dog - mwahhaha,

Now that said...
 
...don't worry too much about the exact calorie numbers you get
- they are probably wildly inaccurate, but the main point is the 
x-factor depletion and challenge itself. 
 
Try and beat your score each time. 
 
You could even do the 10-min run challenge, rest 3 minutes and then
hit the 10-min bike challenge. 
 
(Don't go from bike to run b/c your legs will be all wacky like a 
jello pudding pop...or at least do 10 minutes of total body ab 
exercises in between to let them come back to normal.) 
 
And finally, instead of intervals, you could do this same type of 
density depletion with kettlebell swings, seeing how many you
can do in 10 minutes (that's a common KB workout).
