Hair Bands and Speed Training

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 05:30 PM PDT

How cute!

My hair is long, and during a run, it tends to get in my way, especially in my face. So I’ve been desperately searching for the perfect no-slip, running headband (I know this is such a fascinating topic).

After begging Facebook friends for advice, I was told to try Sweaty Bands.

Sweaty Bands claim to be, ”the number one fitness headbands in the world and the hottest accessory on the planet!”

Their website says, “the simple design gives you a no-slip solution to top off any look. Sweaty Bands grip and hold your hair during the most strenuous of workouts, all without slipping, tugging or pulling.”

Of course, I wanted to see if their claims were true! The Sweaty Band website offers hundreds (maybe thousands) of chic designs. You can even customize your own band!

After looking through all of my options, I decided on a Green and Pink Lean Back band. I ordered my band on Monday evening and it was already at my house tonight. Talk about swift customer service!

Back to running!

I love you guys so much, I'm sharing a photo from right after my run! Look how well my SB stayed in my hair!

After work I went to the gym to focus on weights, not cardio. When I finally got home, I felt unfulfilled. I wanted to run! Plus, I had to test my new Sweaty Band!

I hit the pavement to do some speed training, on a particularly humid day. I only ran 2 miles, but I finished in 14:12 (thanks, Garmin)!

That might be my fastest 2 mile run ever! I’m super impressed with my time, but 2 miles, at my fastest pace, is my limit for now. I need to increase my distance slowly, and still keep my impressive time!

So did my Sweaty Band live up to its claims?

YES! I’m so impressed and I’m loving the stylish addition to my running wardrobe!

Next time, I think I’ll go with a custom sweaty, maybe one that says Blogging Runner!

Now it’s finally time for the Opening Ceremony! I just adore the Olympics!

Today: 2 miles.
Weekly: 20.5 miles.
Yearly: 402.22 miles.

Pints, Prizes and a Great Cause

I knew I would not be exercising tonight, because I made plans to go to Pint Night, a fundraiser for the Brandford Land Trust.

The mission of the Branford Land Trust is to, “preserve open space in Branford and to promote the community’s appreciation of Branford’s diverse natural features.” If you’ve ever been to Branford before, you know the land is beautiful, and I think Pint Night was a great way to support a wonderful non-profit!

The event started at the Branford Trailblazer where you paid $5 for a pint glass which entered you in a raffle that had tons of cool prizes.

I love drinking beer for a good cause!

I didn’t win any of the 10 – 12 prizes, but then again, I ONLY win raffles when a Vera Bradley product is involved. I adore VB, but I’d love to up my game and start winning a car, an exotic vacation, the lotto … you know, the small stuff.

Anyways…

After the raffle, our tickets allowed us to fill our pint glass at Mangos Bar and Grille! Prizes, beer and hanging around a running store for a good cause … I can’t think of anything better!

While I’m totally not a beer drinker, I manged to suffer through one pint of Blue Moon and another pint of wheat beer.

I can't wait to have my first run in these!

I also splurged and ordered a delicious Margherita pizza that could have fed two people!

After my wild night, I will be back at the gym tomorrow focusing on weights.

I have a busy few days ahead of me including a challenging, hilly 7 mile course with my running group on Saturday and a possible 3.4 mile race on Sunday!

After my busy weekend, I’ll finally be ready to break in my new Vibrams!

I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
