Lately I've been really struggling with the acceptance of this "new me." Basically, I'm getting a lot of attention that I otherwise wouldn't have. Look, I'm not going to sugar coat things for you and tell you that people will treat you the same if you're fat or if you're skinny- they wont. It's just reality. We live in a cruel world and appearances DO matter, as much as they shouldn't. When I was fat, no one looked twice at me. I blended in in a crowd and I never noticed that until I began to stand out. I'm not tooting my own horn or saying I'm a hot piece of A or anything. I'm saying I notice the looks more and how I get treated differently now that I'm NOT fat. Make sense? And it's all a little comical to me. The people that would have never paid me a shit of attention before I now find gawking and staring. Say it's the hair. Say it's the clothes, or the makeup, or the tan. Whatever. It's because I don't look like a beached whale anymore. And it's because men are visual creatures. I'm not one to gloat on this new found attention, I'm simply stating that people WILL treat you differently because you're thin. Is it fair? No. But it's the truth. Prime example- A few weekends ago I went out with a few friends. All of them really pretty and thin. We went to this swanky nightclub where there was a line outside waiting to get in. The bouncer waved us up front and we cut the line and got VIP cards that allowed us free entry. He even said to us "this is what you get for being hot ladies!" Then, once inside, the professional photographer followed us around and requested several pictures of us. That never ONCE happened to me when I was fat. Not that I even really went out much, but still. With the new body comes new clothes and more confidence, and that translates into something that men pick up on. I'm a married woman and I don't seek the attention of other men, but I'll tell you this- It's nice to get noticed after so many years of blending in. |
