She believed it was protecting her

Hi Weight Loss,

I've been getting lots of questions and skepticism about this
"pleasurable weight loss" idea, and thought that maybe you
were thinking it, too!

So I thought it would be helpful to introduce you to some of
the women who have used this approach to slim down… and
feel really, really good in their bodies.

Kelsey was a woman who came to me deeply frustrated. Most
of all, she was frustrated with herself. A beautiful, successful
woman in many other areas in her life, she was a self-described
"mess" around food.

She ate for all kinds of reasons. To cheer herself up. To calm
herself down. So she would not feel alone. To release stress.

But the truth was, she'd found that food—more than anything
else—made her feel really, really good.

Except that it really didn't.

But she couldn't stop.

When Kelsey came to my office, she confided that she KNEW
she was using food to "cover up" other issues in her life.

She just didn't know what else to do.

And truly, it felt like she HAD tried everything.

So she felt deeply ashamed. Like it was her fault that those
things didn't work for her.

Which added ANOTHER layer to her feelings… and another
reason to eat.

But you know what? As hard as they can be to feel, I don't
think of feelings like frustration and shame are the enemy.

I actually believe they are messengers. They are sent to tell
us that whatever we're doing isn't in alignment with who we
really are.  And that deep down, we want more for ourselves.

The trick is to pull back the curtain of tough feelings and
listen to the message. And then the SECOND trick is to get
creative and try something else.

As Kelsey and I talked through this, she had a revelation.

The feelings weren't going to kill her.

They were just feelings.

And, when she thought about it, she saw that she HAD been
trying to change the way she felt.

On some level, she WAS listening to the messengers.

But the only "tool" she had in her toolbox for changing the
way she felt was food.

I'll never forget the day I told Kelsey how pleasure is an even
more POWERFUL tool than food, when it comes to feeling really,
really good.

And that feeling good in your body is actually a secret to
losing weight backed by science.

At first, she resisted. (Months later, she admitted that she'd
been raised to think pleasure was bad.)

But then, she had an epiphany!

As she put it "nurturing movement, sensuality and kindness"
were her new tools. Even if those things kind of freaked her
out, she admitted that she liked the idea.

She vowed to go out and try it, to see for herself.

Sure enough, over the course of our work together, she ended
up losing 37 pounds.

Her cholesterol dropped 80 points.

But that's not all.

In her own words:

"At 41 years old, I feel the best I've ever felt. I eat what I want
and everyday I always make sure that I have special treats and
food that tastes exquisite and nurturing. I feel a sense of
freedom with food that I never thought was possible nor existed."

But it exists.

I'm living proof. Kelsey is living proof. The hundreds of women
I've worked with across the country are living proof:

You can use pleasure to lose weight.
