One Run Doesn’t Equal Another

Posted: 28 Aug 2012 06:08 AM PDT

Today I was feeling even worse about my poor running performance from yesterday.

I’m sure most of my negative feelings were the result of two poor night’s sleep due to the very restless visitor in my bed – my sister’s dog Koira. Surprised you there, didn’t I?

I haven't successfully fit into this Loft dress since September 2009!!

My sister and brother-in-law are on vacation, and they left Koira with me. Koira and I are still getting to know each other and our sleep patterns, and we clearly have a few minor issues to work through in order for both of us me to sleep for more than twenty minutes at a time!

I was tired all day long, so I didn’t eat well, but my diet wasn’t terrible.

I had a second Luna bar that I had secretly stashed in my gym bag, and I snacked on an extra large package of pretzels I found in my office (no food is safe in there). So, of course, my ‘off’ diet had me thinking about skipping my run.

I honestly considered taking another night off to go home and rest. But after a few more hours at work, I decided that skipping the gym wasn’t an option!

I got on the treadmill (yes, the treadmill because it was after 8:00 p.m.) hoping to crush my embarrassing 4 mile time from last night.

My four miles breezed by in 33:58 minutes, but I wasn’t done … I just kept running!

I increased and decreased my speed, including the .50 miles I ran at a 6:30 pace. I finished running 7 miles in about 58 minutes. When I was finally got off the treadmill, I was exhausted and sweaty as heck, but I was proud I was able to recover from yesterday.

When do you have your best runs? What motivates you to run when you don’t want to?

Today: 7 miles.
Weekly: 11 miles.
Yearly: 486.33 miles.
