A Secret Pizza Chef

Veggies chopped to perfection!

I know that yesterday I wrote about avoiding temptation, but I gave in to a somewhat more sensible treat last night.

Since I was a child, I have always associated Friday night dinners with pizza. I’m not sure why, because I didn’t have pizza every Friday. But I think I had pizza enough on Friday’s that it became a routine for me.

Nowadays, obviously, I don’t eat pizza every Friday. I eat pizza more like every other Friday!

I know this probably goes against every dieting rule, but I simply don’t care. I eat what I want in moderation. So if I’m craving pizza for dinner, I plan ahead and eat a very sensible lunch.

A little messy, but it does the job!

This is a Big Deal.

Last night I attempted the impossible. I cooked. Yep, you read that right.

I do a lot of some things well, but cooking has never been one of them. I am the type of girl who over salts meat, burns herself while pulling a cookie sheet out of the oven and forgets food is even cooking (thanks to my old apartment oven that lacked a timer).

I think my severe lack of cooking experience comes from living alone throughout most of my 20′s. Now don’t get me wrong, I adored my single apartment years, they were marvelous. However, living alone never motivated me to learn or try to cook for myself.

A fine looking pie!

I still rely on healthier takeout food (like Subway) and microwave dinners like Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine for my meals.

Now I know that microwave dinners are not as nutritious as freshly prepared foods; however, for a girl who can’t cook they seem to be the best alternative (for now).

Back to the Pizza.

So tonight I rolled the dough, chopped the veggies and meat, spread the homemade sauce and topped my pizza with (part-skim) cheese. With the proper guidance from my mother, it was easier than I thought!

It looks too good to eat!

And about fifteen minutes later (with the help of an oven with a trusty timer), I pulled a delicious pizza pie out of the oven that was cooked to perfection.

I had two full slices. Then I cut off two additional mini slices that equaled a half slice. I didn’t feel the least bit guilty about eating any single bite of my pizza!

And I must say it was pretty darn tasty!

Who knows, maybe there’s a secret chef hiding inside of me!
